Sunflowers to End Sundowners

Project Photo
My dad, Eugene Smuda, loved to garden and in particular, he loved to grow sunflowers. He grew amazingly tall sunflowers, most of them taller than our garage. He loved taking care of them by staking and tying them which often involved climbing a ladder to do so. He even won a prize in a contest for a large sunflower he grew.

Unfortunately my father developed Alzheimer's and Sundowners. He passed away August 6, 2015.

I picked up where my dad left off, and I am now a grower of sunflowers. I grow them from seeds and they never cease to amaze me how beautiful and majestic they are. I have inherited my dad's green thumb for sunflowers and can also be seen on a ladder, tying and staking them.

Sunflowers are the flowers of Third Anniversaries and this year is the third anniversary of my dad passing away. This being the case, I decided to create a calendar of sunflowers, all of them were grown by me, except for the October one, which was grown by my dad. October is his birth month. The sunflowers in this calendar were all photographed by me.

I am selling this calendar to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association so that one day there will be a cure for this horrible disease. $5 from the price of each calendar will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association to help with their research and support.
